A Brief History

Welcome to Crown Chemical's web site, and thanks for checking us out!

Crown was established in 1967 by William Spain, who had been selling detergents to meat packing plants, machine shops, metal working facilities and automotive operations for better than 20 years. He had developed many of his own unique formulas during that time based on feedback from his customers. In the winter of 1966, the company blending his chemicals suddenly burned to the ground. Unable to find a suitable replacement to manufacture his products, Crown Chemical was created.

Crown initially focused on producing the items that were needed by Mr. Spain's end-use customers. In those days, powdered detergents were widely used in industrial cleaning operations, and thus represented the majority of Crown's manufacturing output. As cleaning procedures and preferences changed over time, liquid detergents became an increasingly large part of our product selection. Similarly, Crown's line of solid products has expanded since the early 1990's as institutional sanitation preferences have changed.

Now in its 3rd generation of family ownership and operation, Crown has become an industry leader in the manufacture of sanitation and maintenance chemicals for a variety of institutional and industrial markets. We offer hundreds of formulations developed through many years of industry knowledge and field experiences, and we ship these products from our manufacturing facility near Chicago to distributors nationwide.

William Spain's legacy of quality and service to the customer has shaped the company we are today. It is our goal-as it was his-to be the best chemical compounder in the industry.
